Seminar
In 2000 the World Wide Video Festival will organize its third seminar. The topics for the three day seminar have been chosen on the basis of a critical urgency and the current artistic practice. The presentation and distribution of media art is a recurring theme and will this year focus on the relationship between net.art and the museum world and the new possibilities of broadband Internet.

In contemporary media art the narrative element is 'back', as we can gather from 'Dial History' by Johan Grimonprez and the work of Eija-Liisa Ahtila, Irit Batsry and Nalini Malani.

The digitization of film and photography creates an entirely new relationship between still images and moving images. Time and speed, simulation of time and still images: everything gets a new dimension.

Day 1.
Thursday 14 September
De Balie, 10:30 - 13:30

Narrative tendencies in contemporary media art
In the past, media art was often involved in formal exploration of the medium itself, paying much attention to the poetic aspects of video. Lately, a trend can be discerned where artists increasingly use 'classic' narrative structures. The dividing lines between media art, film and documentary seem to be dissolving.

Speakers
Jayce Salloum (USA), has been working in video, installation, photography, and mixed media since 1975. His work deals with a variety of contexts critically engaging itself in the representation of cultural manifestations and other cultures.

Jeroen Boomgaard (NLD), art historian and art critic. Boomgaard wrote a doctoral thesis on Rembrandt but is currently active in contemporary art. Lately he has been studying the relationship between television and visual art, especially the way in which television influences art.

Day 3.
Saturday 16 September
De Balie, 10:30 - 13:30

Presentation and distribution of media art via the World Wide Web
The advancing technology of the Net offers artists the chance to present their work world wide and net.art as well has developed rapidly. At the same time broadband technology now makes it possible to distribute short films over the Net. How does this effect festivals and other presentation sites for media art, and what role can and should the classic museums for modern art play in this?

Speakers
David Guez (FRA), founder of the Arts Channel tv-art.net and free public access channel teleweb.org.

Steve Dietz (USA), media curator with the Walker Art Museum in Minneapolis. He bought one of the first net.art initiatives, Adaweb, for the museum and founded the net.art department 'Gallery 9' at the Walker Art Museum.
